Sugar Cane Festival

Sugar Cane Festival 2019

15th Annual Sugar Cane Festival | June 8, 2019

The energy was at an all-time high for this year’s Sugar Cane Festival. Thanks to the dedication of our many sponsors, volunteers, and vendors, we had a beautiful Saturday afternoon to enjoy fellowship and celebrate all that is great about our community.

Set to the soundtrack of the percussion of Los Bomberos de la Calle and Redobles de Cultura, strumming cuatro guitars of Los Hermanos Sanz, bass from MAKU Soundsytem, mixing from DJ Rahsaan and sound composition from TrippSound, we enjoyed a day filled with culture, empowerment, and unity. Attendees had an opportunity to learn more about all of the resources available to them in Philadelphia, including APM’s social services, financial and housing education, our Pre-K/Headstart programs, Behavioral and Drug and Alcohol services, and affordable housing.

Our Sugar Cane Festival is more than just the pavas (straw hats) being handed out and the sweet juice from the Sugar Cane. It is an opportunity to engage with many of our community stakeholders and service providers on a grass roots level.  The Sugar Cane Festival is community building at its best!
