Food Buying Club

APM-Food Buying Club (APM FBC)

The APM Food Buying Club (APM FBC) is a group of people in the community – friends, family members and neighbors – who pool resources to buy food in bulk directly from the distributor or wholesale market. Over time, members of the club save money over regular retail prices which allows them to gain access to fresher fruits and vegetables and increases their personal, in-pocket cash flow. Money saved is money earned that remains in the community and which families can put toward other things.

Food prices are on the rise including the cost of fresh produce. APM FBC wants everyone in our community to be able to get the most food for their money. A dollar can go twice – even three times – as far at wholesale markets versus the grocery store.

The three main APM Food Buying Club objectives are:

  1. To save us all valuable time and money
  2. To give us more consistent access to healthy food that we want to eat
  3. To build a stronger community

If you have questions or would like to join the APM FBC contact: (267) 296-7350, or visit our office at 1900 N. 9th Street.

Dear Food Buying Club Members,

If you haven’t heard from us yet, we’re sure you’ve noticed that we haven’t released new order sheets for this week. This is for a reason and it is with great disappointment and heavy hearts that we have to share this news with you and apologize for what seems like extremely abrupt notice.

Due to budget constraints, Food Buying Club is closed until further notice. This means that we will not be collecting any more orders, including today. In the meantime, we are seeking funding and alternative resources to support the club’s operations. This is what we will be working hard on in the coming months.

Throughout the next couple months, we will keep you updated and appreciate any feedback or assistance you have to offer. Keep an eye out for surveys and focus group opportunities. Your input will be valuable for ensuring that we again offer a similar program. Despite the disappointing news, we are extremely hopeful that, with your input and additional research and resource development on our end, we can again offer a program that serves the community’s needs.

In the coming days we will be assembling a handful of resources for those looking for options similar to Food Buying Club, especially with Thanksgiving so close. We will have those available online (link below) and in person if you want to swing by the Food Buying Club office at 1900 N 9th Street or the APM office at 6th and Diamond.

If you have any outstanding refund vouchers, we want to invite you to come into the Food Buying Club office (1900 N 9th Street) anytime during business hours to collect your cash refund. If you are unable to pick up your refund at 1900 N 9th Street or during business hours, please reach out to Misha Rodriguez, Food Buying Club Community Outreach Coordinator, at either (267) 296-7350 or foodbuyingclub@apmphila.org to coordinate a better arrangement.

If you have any other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We want to ensure that everyone is as clear and informed as possible about what’s going on now and in the coming months.

On that note, we want to take this moment to thank you for your long time loyalty to Food Buying Club. Food Buying Club members, like you, are what make Food Buying Club so special and will help inform and shape the future of the Club. For us, we are equally disappointed by this news, especially since some of us have been with Food Buying Club since its beginning, and will be working extremely hard in order to find a way to improve the Food Buying Cub and bring something even better back.

Sincerely,
Bridget Palombo
