Largest Hispanic-owned food company in U.S. supports Latino social services organization

PHILADEPHIA, PA — (December 21, 2020) – Goya Foods, the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States, donated food to help feed families and $10,000 to Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM) to support the organization’s annual holiday toy drive for children in APM programs during the holiday season.

“This time of year is especially difficult for underserved Philadelphia families, and the pandemic has presented them with even more challenges,” said APM President and CEO Nilda Ruiz. “Thanks to Goya’s generous donation and their dedication to giving back to our communities, these toys will bring light and hope to children and their loved ones during the holidays.”

While COVID-19 and the economic recession continue to strain families and restrict access to basic social services in unprecedented ways, APM and Goya continue to provide food and services to those in need.  This donation is part of the company’s Goya Gives program Working for Our Country campaign.  By the end of the year, Goya will have donated over 3.5 million pounds of food since the start of the pandemic.

In addition to this donation, Goya is a proud sponsor of APM’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Throughout 2020, APM has connected residents across Philadelphia to honor the past, present and future work of one of the city’s leading social services organizations. This included a four-part Speaker Series, bringing together thought leaders, experts and activists to discuss issues central to APM and the impacts of COVID-19.

In its 50 years helping Philadelphians, APM’s programs provide assistance to tens of thousands of Philadelphians annually in the areas of family services, early childhood education, community and economic development, and behavioral health.  APM programs serve 1,800 children, all of whom live in low-income neighborhoods.  Serving more than 40,000 residents each year, APM is poised to bring its energy to families in 2021 and beyond.
