MRS. THOMPSON – A KINSHIP TALE

September 26, 2017Acuta Support

Mrs. Thompson* has three grandchildren – Jack, 10, Kisha, 9 and Lilly, 4.* She’s been a part of their lives from the moment they were born.   “I was there when Jack said his first word, I toilet trained each of them, I was the constant in their lives.”  She never minded – she loves them. When her daughter was incapable, she knew she needed to take the children and give them a better home. She says that today her children are happy, healthy, and “a little spoiled, too!” She said “My place wasn’t big enough for all of us.  A social worker told me about APM, and I moved back into the city and began working with APM to adopt the children.”

“It was a process, and APM was a part of each step.  We live in a home that APM built – Lilly has been in APM’s Marshall Center Child Care for a year.”  Mrs. Thompson has been active as a Head Start parent, and even attended the national Head Start conference last year.

The adoption process started in November 2014 and was completed a year later.  Now the family is together, happy and safe.  Today she glows when she talks about the coming holidays.  “We show up for every APM event – the holiday party is going to be really great for us this year. APM helped us to keep my family together.”
