Nonprofit provides food and vouchers to ease the burden of the holiday during COVID-19
WHAT: To support Philadelphia seniors and families in low-income neighborhoods as the holiday season approaches, social services organization Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM) is partnering with Cousin’s Supermarket to provide food for Thanksgiving meals.
COVID-19 has restricted access to healthy and hearty meals for those already experiencing food insecurity and elderly Philadelphians who are considered to be high-risk. With support from a Hispanic Federation grant, APM staff will deliver Thanksgiving food packages – that will include turkeys – to the homes of seniors so they do not have to travel to grocery stores themselves.
As part of the initiative, 50 turkeys and 130 $100 vouchers will be distributed at Cousin’s Supermarket to individuals and families in APM’s programs who they have identified as being in need. The vouchers will help to offset the costs of a traditional Thanksgiving feast.
