Nonprofit to provide PPE to all children and families in early education programs
WHAT: Students in Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha’s (APM) Pre-K program at the Rising Sun Early Childhood Education Center will be welcomed back to the classroom by teachers and program staff. Up to 80 children are expected to re-enter school on this first day. Upon their arrival, bags of PPE, including face masks, shields and hand sanitizer, will be distributed to keep the children and their families safe.
A total of 400 PPE bags will be given to APM families in all early childhood education programs, as other students return to class in the coming weeks. Social distancing measures will be put in place, and teachers will be outside the learning center to greet students and distribute PPE to parents. The PPE was purchased with grant funds provided by the Philadelphia Foundation’s PHL COVID-19 Fund and the Hispanic Federation.
Throughout the pandemic, APM has found ways to help bridge the digital divide and overcome other accessibility challenges – such as accessing PPE – for the low-income communities it serves. In March 2020, computer tablets were hand-delivered to every student to continue learning from the safety of their homes. Each tablet included six months of free Internet access.
